With Vic Champs just around the corner it is worth refreshing your memory on the marathon racing rules.
The ICF marathon rules and the AC marathon rules are available on the ICF website (https://www.canoeicf.com/sites/default/files/marathon_rules_2017_0.pdf) and AC website (http://canoe.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/2013-AC-Marathon-Competition-Rules-1.pdf) respectively. These are also available on the CV website at http://vic.canoe.org.au/wp-content/uploads/sites/10/2018/04/marathon_rules_2017_0.pdf

The ICF newsletter on the CV website (http://vic.canoe.org.au/wp-content/uploads/sites/10/2016/02/2013-4-ICF-Canoe-Marathon-Newsletter.pdf) provides nine examples of what these rules mean in practice with respect to buoy turns, finishes and portaging. Please take the time to familiarize yourself with these examples, particularly with respect to turns and wash packs.
Two examples, concerning the start and finish of racing, are reproduced below. In summary, paddlers can’t cut across in front of other boats, unless they are clear of them, and paddlers can’t move off the racing line when paddling to the finish.
