Victorian Canoe/Kayak State Sprint Championships :
Nagambie – Sunday 18 Feb 2018 – Athlete and Spectator Information
The Victorian State Sprint Championships at Nagambie Lakes Regatta Centre on Sunday are shaping up to be a great event.
Entry prices go up at midnight on Thursday, and close at midnight Friday 16,
so don’t delay – enter on Webscorer now! There will be no new entries accepted on the day.
Event Timing on Sunday:
Registrations/ number collection opens at 8am.
Volunteer briefing 8.30am.
Athlete briefing 8.45am.
1000m races start 9.30am.
Detailed timing published later this week, but roughly:
500m races start at 10.45am and 200m races to start at 12:30pm.
Racing should be all finished by 2pm, with presentations finished by 2.15pm.
K4/C4 races will be the last of the 500 and 200m races and while we will allow some extra time for setup of team boats, you should aim to be as ready as possible with your team boats beforehand. Start lists will be published online on Saturday evening.
What to bring: Sunday is forecast to be ideal weather at Nagambie – max of 29˚C, a light to medium wind, but think sun smart, and bring a camping chair and/or picnic rug. Bring water bottles and snacks.
Goldfields Canoe Club are running a stall for lunch and coffee/tea.
Bring a club shelter and banner and wear club colours as far as possible!
Dogs must be under control at all times.
What to expect: A fun day out, with plenty of opportunities to help if you are keen. Great racing for experienced racers and for novices. An introduction to how sprint races are run. This will be a tightly run event: it’s crucial, if you are helping a young paddler, that everyone understands that they MUST be at the start line on time. No exceptions.
If a paddler falls out of a boat on the way to the start line, we will still need to start the race on time.
If you have loaned your boat to someone else and they don’t get it back to you in time … we will still start the race on time.
Registration and Boat numbers:
Entries are online via webscorer and you must let us know by Friday evening who your doubles partners are.
Entries for team boats (K4/C4) are on Sunday morning – closing at 9am but all team boat paddlers must have already entered via Webscorer.
Boat numbers must be collected from the registration desk prior to each race and MUST be returned promptly after each race. All boats MUST have a number holder.
Boats and scrutineering: We will scrutineer boats for flotation and safety as they get on to the water. We will not be weighing boats – however we encourage paddlers who are working towards national selection to use correct sprint weight boats.
The venue and the course: Nagambie’s Regatta Centre is a good sprint venue, with permanent lane buoys. There are toilets, drinking fountains and a first aid station. The registration desk will be just inside the regatta centre building. All boats must be launched from the pontoons in front of the regatta centre. The 1000m course start line is out in to the lake (starter will be in motor boat), whereas the 500 and 200m start lines are from the more “enclosed” part of the course – see aerial view below.
Safety and Race Rules: Safety will be the number one priority of race officials and volunteers – if needed we will delay race starts for safety reasons.
Races will be conducted according to the Australian Canoeing Canoe Sprint Competition Rules except that PFDs are mandatory for all competitors and competitors will preferably wear club uniforms.
Results and Presentations: Presentation of medals and ribbons will occur at a break during the competition and at the conclusion of competition. Results will be published during the competition and final results via Webscorer.
Packing up and Volunteers: If everyone helps pack things up at the end of the day by picking up rubbish and helping to load boats, we will be away in no time.
Please help out! We really really appreciate the hours of effort that the Sprint Committee and our Event Volunteers are putting in to making Sunday a great event. Thanks!
