An ex Canoe Polo competitor Maresa Derbyshire has made an inspiring new years resolution to help keep our waterways clean, on the last day of 2017 she set out to paddle a stretch of water and in just 1km had picked up 36 tennis balls.
Marissa was astonished with the amount of tennis balls and other rubbish left in our rivers, she commented on the amount of rubbish saying “Why should I expect someone else to fix the problem when I am right there…it starts with 1 person.” This is an inspiring attitude to have and something we should all inspire to do to keep out waterways clean.
Canoeing Victoria is hoping to have as many canoe clubs as possible involved with this years Clean Up Australia Day, Whitehorse Canoe Club has already registered their interest to be involved.
If your canoe club or paddling community would like to be involved in Clean Up Australia Day please visit the Clean Up Australia Day webpage by clicking here.
