The Goulburn River was the site for the National Schools wildwater sprint event on 7th January. It was also used for the open and mature age paddlers. The 8th was a classic event and sprint teams.
It was great to see so much participation at these events with over 120 entries in sprint and over 60 at the classic after the schools had departed. The Victorian numbers are growing and most pleasing is the increase in the 12/14/16 age groups and the number of paddlers whose performance is improving and the juniors who are on the verge of meeting or passing the selection criteria for overseas selection.
There are a couple of videos produced by Charlie Collin (2ndField). His site https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaWW8sWhfLCjVjSRMmNCOqQ also has footage from previous whitewater events.
Comment: On January 2nd & 3rd 2018 the Australia Wildwater team selection trials were held at the Mitta Mitta river near Dartmouth dam. There were sprint and classic races, both running through the infamous Shark’s Tooth rapid.
Comment: Eildon, Victoria. Over 2 days Wildwater paddlers competed in sprint and classic races with the winners taking out the coveted Australia title for their category
